*Under the territorial government, the sheriff was appointed by the governor from the time the office was created in 1792. Under the first constitution the office was made elective for two-year terms and was not changed until 1936, when the term was increased to four years.
*Alphabetically, Medina County, Ohio is number "52", being erected in 1812 and organized in 1818. Prior to this organization, the administration was all in Portage County, Ohio.
